DEFINITION |
Fibroblast growth factor receptor 2 (821 aa, ~92 kDa) is encoded by the human FGFR2 gene. This protein plays a role in heparin-dependent fibroblast growth factor signaling. |
DesignNote |
At least 23 isoforms of the fibroblast growth factor receptor 2 protein have been described. They are the products of alternative splicing and exibihit tissue-specific patterns of expression. UniProt has designated this isoform of fibroblast growth factor receptor 2, where alternative splicing leads the expression of the IIIc exon encoding the second half of the third immunoglobulin-like domain located in the extracellular domain of this receptor, as the canonical form. This isoform is expressed in mesenchymal lineage cells and has differential ligand binding activity when compared to the IIIa and IIIb forms. |
