DEFINITION

CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein epsilon (281 aa, ~31 kDa) is encoded by the human CEBPE gene. This protein plays a role in transcriptional regulation.

DesignNote

C/EBP epsilon is a CCAAT enhancer-binding protein and bZIP transcription factor uniquely expressed in, and essential for differentiation of, granulocytic progenitor cells. C/EBP epsilon forms homo- or heterodimers with other family members and expression is enhanced by retinoids. Four isoforms are expressed from different promoters and an alternate start codon. (OMIM)
