DEFINITION

Endothelin-2, encoded by the human EDN2 gene, is a macrophage chemoattractant. Endothelins are endothelium-derived vasoconstrictor peptides. The expression of this secreted protein by tumors may modulate the behavior of macrophages such that activated cells accumulate in areas of hypoxia. (From LocusLink, Swiss-Prot and NCI)
