DEFINITION

Growth hormone receptor (638 aa, ~72 kDa) is encoded by the human GHR gene. This protein is involved in somatotropin-dependent signaling and generalized growth.

DesignNote

Growth hormone receptor can undergo cleavage after amino acid residue 253, which removes the transmembrane domain and produces a soluble protein called growth hormone-binding protein (GH-binding protein; GHBP; serum-binding protein). Growth hormone-binding protein plays a role as a reservoir of somatotropin in the plasma.

Growth hormone receptor is a type I membrane receptor for growth hormone with a ligand-binding extracellular domain (GHBP); a FnIII domain; a WSXWS motif; a cytoplasmic UbE motif for ubiquitination and internalization; and a cytoplasmic JAK interaction box 1 motif.
