DEFINITION |
Serpin B5 (375 aa, 42 kD) is a cell motility process protein that is encoded by the human SERPINB5 gene and has a role in cell motility. |
DesignNote |
Maspin is a member of the Serpin protein family. Unlike other members of the family, Maspin exhibits no protease inhibitory activity (see J Biol Chem. 2002 Dec 6;277(49):46845-8. Epub 2002 Oct 15), but it plays a role in cell-matrix adhesion, tumor invasion, and metastasis. High maspin expression appears to oppose lymph node metastasis. Higher expression is associated with better survival rates and may be a favorable prognostic marker. (from SWISS-PROT, OMIM) |
