DEFINITION

A concomitant process in which old bone is resorbed and new bone is formed. Bone remodeling occurs primarily in bone and involves two types of cells, osteoblasts and osteoclasts. Osteoblasts synthesize bone matrix and form new bone while osteoclasts digest mineral matrix and old bone.
