A non-motile microvillus-like structure found in certain epithelial tissues. It is comprised of plasma membrane that is supported by longitudinal actin filaments.

Tissues that have stereocilia include the sensory epithelia of the inner ear, the vas deferens and the epididymis. There can be many stereocilia per cell.

Stereocilia of the inner ear are involved in the detection of sound waves.
