DEFINITION

A model used in behavioral neuroscience to study behavioral processes and plasticity, memory, learning and perceptual processes and underlying neural mechanisms such as the cellular changes and modulations in sensory transduction and their evolutionary control. The model uses odorant conditioned stimuli temporally paired with unconditioned stimuli to produce conditioned responses to the odorant. Learned behaviors include conditioned behavioral activation and approach responses to the conditioned stimulus odor. The model is effective in diverse range of laboratory species such as honeybees, worms, flies, rats, and canines.
